Sustainable Landscaping Lauren Shiner, Landscape Designer, is a member of the Florida Gulf Coast Green Building Council to actively participate in developing green landscapes. Following to the Green Home Guide, Tampa Landscape Design and its associates encourage clients to use trees to shade the south and west sides of the property to reduce air conditioning usage. We re-use existing landscaping whenever possible as it fits into the new plan. We re-use hardscapes that include old brick. We take care to protect grand tree root zones. We explain the benefits of micro-irrigation and drip irrigation during drought periods and encourage all clients to retrofit existing systems. We introduce as many native plants into the landscape design as possible. Tampa Landscape Design encourages clients to use solar lighting and water cisterns for irrigation. We also encourage the use of permeable hardscapes and erosion control techniques. These are easily instituted landscape design and installation practices and often do not cost more than traditional solutions. Often they bring savings in electricity usage, water usage and replanting costs. But they add to a sense of well-being for the homeowner and contributes to the greening of the planet. |
